Ray Buckley did not have to run a write-in campaign to become the chairman of New Hampshire’s Democratic Party. But he did.

New Hampshire’s Democrats did not have to vote for Buckley, to “shove it” in the face of Buckley’s Republican accuser. But they did.

Now that everyone has what they want, what does all this mean, especially to New Hampshire’s primary? What’s the background story here?

Ray Buckley was considered the front-runner, the “chosen boy” to replace out-going New Hampshire Democratic party chair, Kathy Sullivan. Ray is openly gay, and that in itself is not much of an issue here in New Hampshire.

What became issues were the fantastical kiddie porn charges made against him by Republican Steve Vallaincourt, and a certain videotape featuring Ray Buckley acting like an outlandish San Francisco Gay Pride drag queen, not the leader of New Hampshire’s wannabe respectable Democrats.

Vallaincourt pressed charges against Buckley, saying he saw child porn on Buckley’s computer and in magazines on the floor in Buckley’s living room (in another show of good judgment, Buckley rented an apartment from Vaillaincourt) .

With me, so far?

So, Vallaincourt goes public with his charges, sends a note to the State’s Attorney General, who then feels pressured to undertake an official investigation. The AG’s office, under Democratic Governor John Lynch, finds no evidence that Buckley possessed or distributed kiddie porn.

Good for Buckley. Almost.

Showing what we Granite Stater’s are really made of (think granite, thick, impervious, dense), Vallaincourt continues his pursuit of Buckley and releases a video of Buckley being joyously gay and free in the newly re-named “Love Free or Die” state. You can find a link to the video at the end of this posting.

But patience, my friend. Let me make my point.

A few months ago when this first became news, I advised Hillary Clinton and other candidates to stay away from Buckley. There are two simple reasons for this advice: people will believe you are a pervert if someone says you are. Even if the AG office says you are not, you still are a perv in the generally perverted minds of the average citizen. Once accused, forever guilty.

Second, there is Buckley himself. Watch the video. Is that someone exercising good judgment? Do you want your candidate’s picture superimposed over those images?

And there’s another not so small problem. With the New Hampshire primary in its death throes, who on the Democratic National Committee do you suppose will have to defend our first-in-the-nation primary status? Think it might be Ray Buckley?

How driven (pun intended) are those pols from Michigan to steal the limelight from New Hampshire and shine it on the smoggy urbanity of their wastral state? How much you wanna guess that they would use Buckley’s questionable behavior as a way to muzzle him?

The New Hampshire Democrats should be congratulated for “sticking it” to Vallaincourt and applauding Ray Buckley for fighting for his gay rights. Glad you guys stood up to that Weanie Republican, Vallaincourt. New Hampshire might lose its primary, but — what did Barry Goldwater say about extremism in defense of liberty being no vice?
