Earlier today, Obama campaign surrogates in New Hampshire — Ned Helms and Martha Fuller Clark — “decried” Bill Shaheen’s comments that Obama’s past drug use would be a liability in a general election.
I am sorry to hear that Shaheen apologized. First, what he said is true. Obama’s marijuana and cocaine use is a liability and Democrats need to think twice about nominating someone who will become a poster child for “drugged out liberals.” Worse, he has utterly failed to show any moral leadership on this issue when discussing drugs and alcohol abuse with kids.
Second, I have been getting calls here at home in New Hampshire from the Obama campaign. In conversation about their main opponent, they do not hesitate to smear Hillary Clinton and lie about her record as Senator and First Lady.
The last call attacked her leadership skills based on the health care reform efforts back in the early 1990s. Health care reform failed, he said, because of Hillary’s mismanagement of the project. I had to remind the Obama worker that it was the well-financed efforts of the health care lobby and the dirty tricks of Republicans like Bob Dole and Phil Gramm that killed health care reform. It was not Hillary’s lack of leadership.

Obama and his people want to take a “holier than thou” stance in this campaign, but the Senator and his campaign are flawed, vulnerable, and not above playing their own dirty tricks.
Nominating Obama would be like handing the GOP the Presidency on a silver platter.
Bill Shaheen: you did the right thing! And we need more truth-telling about Obama.

And you might read some history about Stalin before you go throwing that accusation around. Sort of diminishes your credibility, Peeper Boy.

I will add that Hillary has two words that will cause her defeat and it is not Health Care.
The words are HILLARYS SCANDALS!
The mud, it flies from HRC more than any politico I have read about in the past 25 years! She is a master at “dirty Tricks” even puts Nixon to shame.

Oh, please. Most of that stuff was made up by the goon squads in Arkansas. They kept at it right through the Clinton presidency. My editor checked out most of those stories and they were totally bogus. I think he even spent two hours interviewing one of the main perps. You’ll believe what you want to believe because it fits your preconceptions about the Clintons. But I thought I would introduce a little reality on the topic.

Oh please, Shaheen’s comments were positively Rovian. Bring up a smear about a candidate while pinning it on someone else.
Funny how you don’t mention the secret meetings of Hillary Clinton’s Health Care Task Force, and that they released documents related to the proceedings only after a lawsuit.

First of all it was not a smear — it was a warning to Democrats that Obama is a tainted candidate who will not win in a general election. Sorry, but “black, cocaine using liberal,” is a GOP dream come true. Shaheen was just pointing out the obvious. And the truth.
As for Hillary and health care reform, if you want to believe universal health care sank because the task force held meetings in private, then your Rx is to go see a proctologist and get your head out of your ass.
Anyone who really paid attention to what happened — and didn’t just listen to the GOP fairy tales — knows that the health care lobby, along with their GOP hitmen, killed universal health care because they were scared witless that their obscene profits would dry up.
If you are going to post here, at least get your facts right.

I agree with you — Hillary should release the health care task force papers. Not doing so raises more concern about what’s in there than they likely deserve.
My recollection is that those meetings were private because they worried that the various reform ideas would be picked apart by the health care lobby even before they had a fair hearing. As it turned out, it didn’t matter: the doctors, hospitals, drug companies, and insurance companies made sure the plan was DOA regardless of what was in it.
I would dispute your characterization about her “forceful intervention” into Clinton’s presidency. Most voters knew she would be active in the administration. Second, I have poll numbers here that showed most voters supported her taking on the leadership role for health care reform.
Finally, I am not a Howard Fineman fan, so I guess I don’t really care what he thinks. He’s always struck me as a spineless waffler with a liberal bias. I prefer liberals with backbone.

Well Simon, if you really feel a former “druggie” is what we needed, you got it. Let’s not get someone in office that has experience just because they made a poor choice for thier VP, lets take the smoking former druggie, who can’t come up with his own BC, which by the way is easy as pie to get(as long as you were really born where you say)!!!
