The Obama camp can start singing that old Beatles tune, “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

Even with a record-setting fundraising effort behind him, the Illinois senator is in danger of losing his own state.

According to an American Research Group primary poll released today, Obama is barely 4% ahead of Hillary Clinton, 37% to 33%. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 4%, so Obama is statistically in a dead heat with Hillary.

John Edwards gained 5% since the previous ARG poll in Illinois.

The poll was taken after the news about Obama’s fundraising bonanza was released to the public. Evidently, voters in his home state were not impressed.
