Although Obama’s campaign rhetoric leaves one impression — that he was always against the war and never voted to support our mission in Iraq — his actual votes as a senator make it clear that he and Hillary Clinton have more in common on this issue than Obama and his campaign are admitting.
In today’s Associated Press story, handlers for Clinton and Obama squared off on the issue –
“At Harvard, (Clinton strategist Mark) Penn answered a question by bringing up Obama’s Senate record. He said Obama, like Clinton, has voted for spending bills to continue funding the war. And like Clinton, he opposed an amendment sponsored by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry last year that would have set a July 1, 2007, deadline for withdrawing troops.”
“When they got to the Senate, Senator Obama’s votes were exactly the same,” Penn said.
